Ponteland High School Students Shine at Girls in IT Event

May 15th, 2025

A group of Year 10 students from Ponteland High School recently took part in the inspiring Girls in IT event hosted at Newcastle College, in partnership with global tech giant Cisco. The event was aimed at encouraging more young women to consider careers in the technology sector.

Held in a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere, the day featured a variety of hands-on workshops and interactive sessions. One of the highlights was a Dragons’ Den-style Artificial Intelligence competition, where students were challenged to pitch innovative AI solutions to a panel of expert judges.

Representing Ponteland High School with creativity and confidence, the students impressed organisers and fellow participants alike with their forward-thinking ideas and teamwork. Events like this are a key part of the Pele Trust’s ongoing commitment to preparing students for future career opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Mr. Greenshields, Deputy Headteacher and Career Lead at Ponteland High, praised the students for their enthusiasm and professionalism:

“Our students did an excellent job representing the school. Opportunities like these show just how capable and innovative our young people can be, especially in rapidly growing fields like IT and AI.”
