Key Stage 3

At Ponteland High School, we believe that Key Stage 3 should be an engaging, challenging and exciting learning experience for all of our students.

We begin by working closely with our primary schools and then throughout Year 7, 8 and 9, we aim to ensure that all learners:

  • Have a sense of belonging in our school
  • Experience good teacher and peer relationships and understand how they contribute to success in school
  • Maintain and develop their independence, motivation, engagement and positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Make or exceed expected progress by building on their existing knowledge, understanding and skills from Key Stage 2 into Key Stage 3 and then into Key Stage 4

We believe that students should experience a meaningful 3-year Key Stage 3 curriculum across the majority of subjects to enable them to develop deep knowledge and understanding in each curriculum area. This also enables them to develop their interests and skills that they may wish to pursue in KS4 or beyond.

We strongly believe that personal choice is a strong motivator, therefore students will be provided with ‘open’ option choices for KS4. Consequently, our curriculum is carefully planned to allow the knowledge, understanding and skills delivered at KS3 to be further developed within KS4.
