Students Share Their Vision for a Stronger Community

July 8th, 2025

As part of Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week, students from Years 7 to 10 at Ponteland High School took part in a series of student voice sessions in partnership with Northumberland County Council, Northumbria Police, and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.

The sessions gave young people a platform to share their views on how we can work together to make our communities safer, more inclusive, and more supportive for all. Students offered thoughtful and constructive ideas about how to reduce anti-social behaviour and improve opportunities for young people in the local area.

Held in small-group discussions, the sessions gave representatives from local agencies the opportunity to hear directly from students about their experiences, concerns, and aspirations for the future of their community.

Mr Jonny Greenshields, Deputy Headteacher, commented:

“It was fantastic to see how maturely and positively our students engaged with the conversations. They spoke with real insight and care about the places they live and the changes they’d like to see. I know our partners in the council, police, and fire service found their contributions genuinely valuable.”

The event formed part of a wider week of activities in school focused on community engagement and the importance of respectful, responsible behaviour both in and out of school.
