Digital Horizons: Students Explore Cutting-Edge Careers at Aspiration Digital Conference

November 24th, 2025

On the 5th November, a variation of Year 12 and 13 students had the opportunity to attend the first Aspiration Digital conference in Newcastle, hosted at Newcastle University’s Business School. Aspiration Digital is a one day digital skills conference for students to explore careers in the digital industry through talks, panels and networking opportunities. The event is offered to students studying Media, Business, Computing, IT and Econmoics at A Level.

The event’s founder Becky Simms, explained the purpose behind the conference, “Aspiration Digital was created to ignite curiosity and inspire students about the exciting career opportunities within the digital sector, an area too often overlooked in the traditional school curriculum.I was absolutely thrilled we’ve been able to bring this event to the North East, shining a spotlight on future digital leaders right here in the region.”

The day proved both informative and eye opening. Students learned about the wide range of careers available in the digital world, as well as the importance of building a personal brand and how useful Linkedin can be, even at an early stage in their professional journey.

Throughout the event, students heard from organisations and speakers like Cyber North, Sophie Milliken MBE, Dr David Hooper, Newcastle United Foundation and even watched a live recording of podcast, Behind The Future.

Year 12 pupil Luke R reflected on the experience, “It gave a clear insight into the real world of working and encouraged me to join Linkdin”.

Overall the conference was a valuable and inspiring experience, giving students meaningful insight into a career sector often overlooked in schools.
