Drug Awareness Sessions: Educating Students on Risks, Effects, and Protection

December 11th, 2025

Recently Sixth form tutors have been focusing on the education of drug addiction in teens and adults to inform older students in PSHE sessions about different types of drugs, the physical and mental effects of them and how to avoid them.

With a national rise in ketamine usage we spent a couple of mornings in form time focusing on how ketamine can hugely impact lives when used, we watched news interviews with a young mother from Essex advocating for further education and protection against drug abuse for young adults. We were also shown through videos how to identify different drugs and how to protect against spiking in public spaces with many students beginning to go out into the wider world socially where this is a common occurrence. Tutors also showed students websites providing different code names of drugs to help people understand the nicknames and how they can be misinterpreted leading to misuse and forceful drug taking.

I found this very informative because this information is widely unknown and many agreed it is important that this is an ongoing discussion in school as it heavily affects the youth of today. We are also very lucky to have tutors who are willing to take their time with these subjects and provide extra information when necessary.
