Year 9 students explore university life through NU Navigators visit

January 21st, 2026

Last Friday, a group of our Year 9 students visited Northumbria University as part of the NU Navigators programme, an initiative designed to help young people better understand the opportunities that university life can offer and to encourage them to think broadly and confidently about their future choices.

During the visit, students took part in engaging taster sessions in Sport and Law, giving them a flavour of how these subjects are studied at university level. They also enjoyed a guided campus tour, which helped them to picture what day-to-day life as a university student might look like and to ask thoughtful questions about courses, facilities and pathways beyond school.

Throughout the day, our students represented the school extremely well. They showed genuine curiosity, asked insightful questions and approached each activity with enthusiasm and maturity. Their positive attitude and willingness to engage fully with new experiences was a real credit to them and reflected our strong focus on the character strength of involvement.

Mr Greenshields, Deputy Headteacher, said:

“It was fantastic to see our Year 9 students so engaged and enthusiastic throughout the day. I would like to thank Northumbria University for welcoming us and for providing such high-quality, inspiring experiences for our students. Opportunities like this are invaluable in helping young people see what could be possible for them in the future, and our students demonstrated real involvement in making the most of everything on offer.”

We are grateful to the team at Northumbria University for hosting such a well-organised and inspiring visit, and we look forward to continuing to build opportunities that help students explore, aspire and believe in their future potential.
