Year 8 students from Ponteland High School have taken an exciting first step towards exploring future careers in the built environment during a visit to Northumbria University.
The visit introduced students to the wide range of career opportunities available within the built environment sector, helping them discover how subjects they study at school can lead to exciting future pathways.
As part of a programme being piloted with Northumbria University’s Built Environment team, 12 students had the opportunity to explore areas including Building Surveying, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Real Estate, Architecture and Interior Architecture.
The experience highlighted the important links between these professions and subjects such as Maths, Art, Design and Technology, while also demonstrating the value of wider skills including teamwork, problem solving, creativity and presenting ideas.
The visit comes at an important time for Year 8 students as they begin to consider their future GCSE options and the subjects that may support their interests and aspirations. By introducing students to a variety of careers at an early stage, the programme aims to broaden their horizons and help them make informed decisions about their future.
The partnership with Northumbria University provides a valuable opportunity for students to experience university life, learn more about higher education and gain a better understanding of the diverse career opportunities available in the built environment.
Ponteland High School is committed to providing students with meaningful experiences that connect classroom learning with the world of work, helping them develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to make informed choices about their futures.
