Attendance
- Students are expected to be in school every day from 8.55am for the whole of the morning session
- Students must attend every timetabled session eg. lessons, enrichment, registrations, supervised study periods, tutorials and assemblies
- Poor attendance may result in loss of privileges eg. leaving site at lunchtimes, increased supervised study
- All students must attend AM and PM registration
- Students may leave the site during lunchtime but must return before 2.20pm
- If students have a study period lesson 5 they may go home.
- If students are absent, parents must phone in or send an email to sixthformattendance@ponthigh.org.uk to let us know the nature of the absence
- If a student has an appointment and needs to leave the site, parents need to email with the appointment details
- Students must not arrange part time work during the school day (even if they have a study period lesson 5)
General Equipment
- Students need a smart bag/rucksack large enough to carry folders and files.
- Pencil case complete with all usual items
- Pad of A4 paper
- Lever arch folder
- Folder Dividers
- Bic pen (4 colour)
- Lanyard and Cornell note booklets (to be given by school in September)
- We recommend all sixth form have a locker, for a £5 deposit
Food
- Students can still use the school canteen at break and lunchtimes
- All students should bring a water bottle
- There is a coffee shop P1 and 2 providing drinks and snacks (staffing dependant)
- Students can leave the site at lunchtime ONLY to purchase food from local shops and cafes.
Study Expectations
- Students receive 9 hours per subject each fortnight. They are expected to do the same amount in independent study/homework outside of lesson time.
- They will have some supervised study periods in silence spaces.
- There are other spaces they can use eg. the dining streets, the sixth form study area, the lecture theatre, the library, free classrooms
- All students can connect one device to the school network to work in school
Mobile Phone Use
- Students may use their mobile phones for appropriate use in school in sixth form study areas. Mobile phones should not be used around the corridors or in lower school social areas at break and lunchtimes. Phones should be kept in bags during lesson time and registration time.
- We reserve the right to confiscate mobile phones for the school day if anyone is using them outside of these guidelines.
Driving Lessons
- Students may arrange a driving lesson during a study period, but it must not affect registration or lesson time. Parents need to notify school of these times in advance.
Open Days/ Work Experience
- Students are authorised to take time to visit universities, conduct interviews, and complete work experience
- Please email sixthformattendance@ponthigh.org.uk if any such time off is required so we can authorise it
Chromebook System
We have a chromebook/laptop loan scheme. For a refundable deposit of £50.00, paid in advance, students can borrow a device until they leave sixth form. The device can be used out of school for homework etc. If the device is lost or damaged the refund will not be returned.
Bursary
All students are encouraged to check their eligibility for the following financial support; any student who believes they qualify should make an application. Not only will this support you in overcoming any financial barriers to studying at Ponteland High, but also with university expenses.
To ensure there are no barriers to learning financial support is available fo things such as school meals, travel, uniform, study visits, books, stationery, university applications and some trips
1.The Independent Bursary
Available to students who are in care; care leavers; those in receipt of income support; and disabled young people in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance.
- The Discretionary Bursary
Available to students who live in a household with a gross annual income of less than or equal to £35,000 or are in a situation where you are unable to meet your basic needs.
