On the 18th November, four Year 12 students attended an enlightening career’s event at the UK’s leading accountancy firm, PWC, in their Newcastle office. During the afternoon, they learned what PWC does, the ethos behind the company as well as their enticing Flying Start programme along with an insight into how a working day with PWC may look like.
Flying Start is a degree programme that the company offers for students coming out of college or sixth form to kickstart their careers whilst studying for a degree at the same time. You earn a salary and will have a role within the company, working on real life projects across three work placements, whilst balancing your time with university study. The work placements allow for students to work and live for a short period of time elsewhere in the country and in all of the different departments within PWC. After a four year university course, at any of the following: Newcastle, Queen Mary’s College, Nottingham or Reading, those who pass their final exams are offered a permanent job in PWC.
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in a career in accountancy or finance where they can study locally and receive the chance to work somewhere else in the country, gaining the insight whether it may be something for you. Furthermore the exposure to clients that the programme offers, is invaluable as a result of building connections that will no doubt prove advantageous in the future.
