Ponteland High’s Intermediate girls’ team participated in a tough day of competition, with strong teams from North Yorkshire, Durham and Northumberland, however, they performed excellently to finish 3rd overall; this was at the regional stage of the English Schools’ track and field cup on Monday 6 June. The girls progressed to this stage of the competition after previous success at Gateshead Stadium last month.
The team, made up of year 8 and 9 students, displayed their talent across a variety of running, throwing and jumping events. Highlights included Lucy M. continuing her excellent form over 300m, finishing 1st place in 44.8 secs, and Charlotte B. with the joint fastest time in the 200m (30.0secs)!
PE teacher, Ms. Byers said, “The girls were fantastic ambassadors for the school. Their positive attitudes and team spirit was present throughout the day as they continually supported their team mates and cheered each other on.”
Elliot (Y10) and Joseph (Y13) also competed at the North East Grand Prix on Wednesday evening. These are a series of track meets held at Monkton Stadium throughout the summer. Joseph ran 4:25 mins (a PB by over ten seconds!) whilst Elliot, competing in the track mile for the first time, finished the iconic distance in an impressive time of 4:51.45.
