A wicket(d) week for Ponteland High’s cricketers

15 June 2022

Ponteland High’s cricketers have been making the most of the glorious weather of the last few weeks, with the cricket season truly getting into swing.

Our KS3 students returned after half-term to a busy day of fixtures against RGS Newcastle. On Thursday, the U13 boys played host to RGS at home, whilst the U12 and U13 girls’ teams travelled to Jesmond to play RGS away in two closely contested games.

Head of PE, Mr Dunn said, “Our students were superb hosts. There was some fantastic cricket and outstanding sportsmanship on display. I don’t want this summer season to end!”

Last Friday, the school’s cricketers demonstrated their leadership skills by assisting Northumberland County Cricket Club in running a special event for the Ponteland and Pele Trust primary schools.

PE teacher, Mr Grier said, ‘Staff from the primary schools and Northumberland CCC were incredibly complimentary of our students. Their interactions with the younger students were fantastic. They led events with confidence and patience and this was reflected in the happy faces that returned to the primary schools at the end of the day.’
