12 different schools from Newcastle, Sheffield and Hull travelled to Leeds for the British Schools Regional Karting Final on Wednesday 10 May. Ponteland, WBHS and Dame Allen’s represented the Newcastle area. Michael R, Felix W and Lewis T raced for Ponteland High School
In qualification, all the team posted fastest laps in each of their groups. The grid positions were then randomly assigned to the drivers and the racing began. In race one Felix started 9th and finished 7th, Michael started in 4th and finished 2nd, Lewis started 11 and finished 9th. In race 2, Felix finished 9th from 12th, Michael finished 1st from 4th and Lewis was in poll position and held 1st place under a huge amount of pressure.
When all the points were calculated, we finished with 92 points and 1st place by only 1 point!
The team now progresses to the National Finals on June 16 in Warrington. This will be broadcast on the TeamSport Youtube channel.
