Career of the Week is an initiative we started in the autumn term and is proving very popular. Each week, our Careers Coordinator, Miss Anna Makepeace, provides information about a particular career and this is shared during tutor time with all year groups.
One of the key features of the COTW is when we are able to highlight an ex-Ponteland High School student in that career. We have been so grateful to our ex-students who have been willing to share their experience and advice with us for the benefit of current students.
In a recent COTW the focus was on interior design and featured an ex-student, Sally from Rea Interiors, who offered some very useful advice. Sally’s advice and input doesn’t stop there, however, as we’re really looking forward to welcoming her back to the school to take part in National Careers Week in March but in the meantime, Sally’s Alumni Q and A can be found below.
CV builder support
Students are reminded that all year groups are invited to attend our ‘CV Builder’ workshops on Wednesday lunchtimes and after school. CV Builder allows students access to a range of CV and cover letter resources and feedback.
Drop-in careers support
We operate a drop-in careers service that is available to all year groups and runs on a Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime. Miss Makepeace commented,“The group allows students to discuss their option choices, identify useful websites and resources and explore future career aspirations.”
