English Schools Cross Country National Final

22 March 2023

We had three athletes representing Northumberland at the English Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday 18 March. This is the final stage of the competition which sees athletes from 45 counties compete for individual and team glory.

The athletes earned their coveted place on the team after their success in the earlier rounds of competition. The English Schools competition is an integral part of athlete development, with many recognisable names from the Olympic and Commonwealth Games having competed in the English Schools as young and upcoming athletes.

Elliot K. finished in an excellent 52nd place and 3rd scorer for the Northumberland team. This is a huge improvement of over 120 places, compared to Elliot’s position in the race last year.

In her debut in the national final, Frances E. finished in 229th place in the Junior girls race and fourth back for Northumberland. Whilst Erin B. finished in 165th place in the Intermediate girls race and was also fourth back for Northumberland. This was also a big improvement in position for Erin, who still has another year of competing in this age category.
