Springboard’s FutureChef is a schools-based programme that supports the development of key life skills whilst inspiring young people to pursue an exciting career within the world of hospitality. They support students to build industry based culinary skills and knowledge, as well as connecting teachers and students with industry professionals. The FutureChef competition is now the biggest school culinary competition in the UK celebrating talent and adding to our long list of successful alumni.

The FutureChef Competition helps Years 9-11 pupils to develop their culinary talent and supports pupils with entry routes into careers in the kitchen. FutureChef supports the national curriculum and the development of key life skills whilst inspiring young people to cook.

Ponteland High School students have been participating in weekly heats over the past 5 weeks. Following this, the final took place on Tuesday 15 November in school and the joint winners were Abigail K and Lily W.

For the final, students were required to independently cook a main course for 2 people in 60 minutes and within the budget of £5. The dishes were judged with each student receiving a certificate to mark their involvement.

Mrs Whickham says “We wish Abigail and Lily all the very best as they progress to the local final at Gateshead College on Monday 28 November!”
