Girl Powered

A group of our Year 7 and 8 students had the chance to participate in 'Girl Powered', a STEM event hosted by Newcastle University. The purpose of the event was to highlight the wide range of opportunities available in the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths. One of the highlights of the session was a talk from Dr Priscila Melo and Dr Maryam Haroutunian, members of the Engineering Department at Newcastle University. There were lots of chances to get hands on too, with our students engaging in lots of practical experiments too.

Deputy Headteacher, Mr Greenshields commented, 'I'm really grateful for the support of our Science department and especially Ms. Nelson for helping our students access this event, as well as Laura and the team at Newcastle University for hosting us. An important aspect of our careers programme is breaking down any sense of barrier or misconception that might prevent our pupils from thinking they can access any career path. Exciting events like this really empower our students to think big about their future careers.
