The school-based collection for the Newcastle West End Food Bank has been gathering pace over the last couple of weeks prior to the pick up date of Thursday 18 November.
Students and staff were amazed and so proud of all the donations. Our Sixth form helpers carried the crates backwards and forwards to load up the van, which was no easy task as the food bank volunteers took away 1074kg of donations - an outstanding effort! This represents more than a tonne of items and 75kg more than last year.
The West End Foodbank cannot function without such generous support - to put the Ponteland High School donation into context; our collection of 1074kg will supply the centre’s need for a full week. This is wonderful to know that we have made such a significant contribution but a sobering thought nonetheless.
Assistant Headteacher, Mr Greenshields, said, ”I have been overwhelmed by the brilliantly generous giving that our school community has shown in response to this appeal. I am so thankful for the support of our staff, students and especially our parents in supporting the Food Bank in such a fantastic way.”
