Outstanding effort in Regional Chess Tournament

03 April 2022

Knights, Queens, Bishops – no it is not a medieval banquet, but once again our Chess Teams off to do battle in a Chess Tournament.

On Tuesday 29 March, 12 students/3 teams:

Team A: Mylo S, Abigail E, Nathaniel L and Josh A;

Team B: Ryan A, Hanna IS, Abbie S and Beau H;

Team C: Sam M, James H, Callum C and Eva T

took part in the Team Chess Challenge Tournament at St Mary’s Catholic School in Longbenton.  Our teams, each comprising four students, battled against eight other schools from around the region.

The teams played so well and there were some tough matches at times. Just over 40% of our team members are Year 7 students; one of which is Abigail E (she is part of our A Team) who frequently finds herself up against sixth formers who mistakenly judge her as a pushover.

Person of the match goes to Beau H. Beau secured a win in all of his four matches; one of which he won in only 4 moves.

Miss Laws, School Librarian said “We are so proud of our students and we are already looking forward to the next competition!”
