Ponteland High School hosted two Career Breakfasts last week for pupils in years 9 and 10. At Tuesday’s breakfast, students were joined by Stuart - a marketing executive, Shaun - a policeman, Graham - an accountant, Abigail - a trainee solicitor, Euan - a vet, and Samantha - a clinical researcher.
Students were split into groups of five at the event and spent around ten minutes with each volunteer, asking prepared questions and learning about each guests’ personal career path. Our volunteers were very impressed by the confidence and maturity shown by all of our students and many of our students left with some official McLaren merchandise, kindly brought along by our volunteer, Stuart.
At Wednesday’s breakfast, pupils in years 9 and 10 were joined by Holly - a change manager, Keqi - a data analyst, Sally - an interior designer, Roddy - an engineer and project manager, Alistair - an architect and our new school enterprise advisor, Phil Afleck. Pupils had a fantastic morning engaging with volunteers from the industries they‘re most interested in working in and were once again commended for their excellent networking skills!
A huge thanks goes to our volunteers for giving up their time on Tuesday and Wednesday to attend the Careers Breakfast. Many students noted in their evaluation forms how inspired they felt leaving the event and how time went so quickly when surrounded by such interesting guests!
Careers Coordinator, Anna Makepeace, said “If you're an ex-pupil or friend of Ponteland High School and would be interested in taking part in one of our future Career Breakfasts, we'd love to hear from you. Similarly, students wishing to attend a Career Breakfast in the future are encouraged to check their emails for information on upcoming dates as the Breakfasts are popular and spaces fill up quickly.”
