Ponteland High’s Chess tournament

26 November 2021

What a night!

For the first time ever, Ponteland High School has secured a place in the Regional Chess Finals.  We took two teams to St Mary's Catholic School in Longbenton where they battled against a formidable St Mary’s team and equally challenging team from North Gosforth Academy.

Both of our teams played exceptionally well and won some exciting matches.  You could hear a pin drop during some of the games.

Our Team A will compete in the Regional final against RGS and St Mary’s A and B teams in the forthcoming weeks.  If we secure enough points we will be headed to the final in London in June 2022.

We are so proud of all the students who took part and thrilled that we have progressed to the next round.  The students were brilliant – well done to them all.

Students who took part are:

(Andrew M, Mylo S, Felix W, Sam M, Ryan A, Hanna I Stephenson, Abigail E, Matthew S, Jayden B, Quintin C, Beau H and Callum C).
