The following students were involved in the Remembrance Day Parade: Cpl Ewan Taylor (Y12), LCpl Joshua Anderson (Y10), LCpl Adam Robinson (Y10), LCpl Jacob Todryk (Y11), Cdt Darcy Beckham (Y8), Cdt Isaac Cairns (Y10), Cdt Marc Coulson (Y8), Cdt Nathan Dodd (Y10), Cdt James Hickie (Y9), Cdt Leighton Hindmarsh (Y10), Cdt Nathaniel Lee (Y10), Cdt Connor Ridley (Y10) and Cdt Emilie Willats (Y11)
The students listed above are all active members of Ponteland Detachment, Northumbria Army Cadet Force. Many of them have only been with the detachment since April 2021 but have shown great commitment by attending Wednesday evenings 7.00-9.00am each week. The parade on Saturday was their first major public event and they performed brilliantly.
Everyone admitted to feeling nervous beforehand but the positive comments from the community lining the streets provided a confidence boost. A representative for the detachment laid poppies on the war graves within the churchyard on Sunday morning and then the cadets were involved in the Cenotaph guard throughout the morning before leading the parade through Ponteland ready for the 2 minute silence and service at the cenotaph at 11.00am.
Y13 students, Lizzie McGrane and Will Roberts, laid a wreath at the cenotaph on behalf of the school and read the names of the fallen soldiers from the town.
