Last week, we celebrated World Book Day at Ponteland High School. We had a myriad of competitions for tutor groups to get involved with, assemblies about fostering a love of reading, English lessons around a love of literature and, Year 7 and 8 read The Iron Man throughout the day.
One class even applauded once they finished the final chapter in period 5! I’m sure it was because they enjoyed it so much and not because we had reached the end! Over the course of the day, it was great to see so many students getting involved and hearing the conversations about literature when leaving assemblies.
English teacher, Miss Emerson, said “It was a joy to see so many students getting involved with World Book Day. I had so many competition entries and it was lovely to hear students talking about literature. One student lent me a book to read after the conversation about books had begun. It was an absolute delight!”
