We’re thrilled to announce that several talented students from Ponteland High have been selected for publication in the latest Young Writers anthology—“Empowered: A Journey Through Ink.” Their powerful poems stood out among thousands of entries and will now appear in a beautifully produced book celebrating young creativity.
📚 What is the Young Writers Award?
Launched in 1991 by poet Ian Walton, the Young Writers Award offers national competitions in poetry and creative writing for primary and secondary pupils. Since its inception, the programme has helped boost confidence, nurture imagination, and inspire young authors by showcasing their work in real books
How it works:
-
Students enter themed competitions like “Empowered,” submitting original poems or stories.
-
Winning and commended pieces are printed in anthologies that schools can purchase—and proudly display in libraries.
-
Each shortlisted writer receives a certificate and keepsake copy, while outstanding entries earn prizes and recognition .
Why it matters:
For our Ponteland High poets, being published is more than an achievement—it’s a launchpad. Seeing their words in print offers a huge confidence boost and signals the start of a lifelong writing journey.
Congratulations to all our budding writers featured in Empowered: A Journey Through Ink—your voices have been heard, and we couldn’t be prouder. Keep writing, dreaming, and sharing your stories!
