Putting Navigation Skills into Practice!

June 23rd, 2026

Last week, a group of our Sport CNAT students swapped the classroom for the great outdoors as they took part in a practical navigation training session in the hills above Rothbury.

Having spent time learning the theory behind navigation, route planning and map reading, students had the opportunity to put those skills into practice in a real-world environment. Working in teams, they navigated across the Northumberland countryside, applying what they had learned to plan routes, identify key features and travel safely through the landscape.

The session formed part of their Sport CNAT course and provided a fantastic opportunity to develop confidence, teamwork, problem-solving and leadership skills, while enjoying some of the beautiful scenery Northumberland has to offer.

Our students were a credit to the school throughout the day, demonstrating excellent engagement and enthusiasm. Most importantly, they had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Well done to everyone involved!
