Once again, the chess team returned to St Mary’s School to do battle against nine local schools in the region. Our two teams, with some new players, were keen to get started! Our A team drew with RGS in their first round and suffered a few defeats. However, undaunted, they came back and won their second and third rounds. Some of the games were won in as little as 2 minutes.
Our B team also lost their first round, but won their second round. This meant that they had to win their third round to qualify. Unfortunately, we missed out by one point despite the best efforts of all involved.
Both are teams played exceptionally well and won some exciting matches. You could hear a pin drop during some of the games!
Team A will return in January to play in the Regional Finals. School librarian, Miss Laws said "We are so proud of both teams; the students were brilliant – well done to them all!"
Congratulations to:
Team A – Abigail E, Mylo S, Beau H, Joshua A, Ryan A and James H
Team B – Nathaniel L, Hanna I-S, Abbie S, Oliver J, Nathan R and Amy
