Students from Years 8 and 9 in Mock Trial

Ponteland High’s Year 8 and 9 students excelled in their first participation in a Mock Trial Competition, hosted at Newcastle Law Courts. Through prosecuting and defending an example case The Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition aims to show young people how the law impacts their lives and teaches them about the legal justice system. Students played the full range of roles in the court process, from magistrate to defendant.

Deputy Headteacher, Mr Greenshields commented, ‘I couldn’t be prouder of the efforts of our team, they have prepared superbly over recent weeks and each performed to their best ability on the day. Whilst only one team was able to qualify from our round, I have no doubt that the students involved have learnt a great deal from being involved, both about the legal system and about themselves’.
