On Wednesday 21st November some of our musicians in Years 9, 10 and 13 went to spend a day at the music department in Newcastle University. The day was split into three parts. Firstly, our students were tutored by university staff and undergraduates to create a performance of George Michaels ‘Freedom 90’. The end result was amazing and it was a credit to our pupils who showed not only how quickly they could learn a brand new complex piece but also to a high standard.
Secondly, students attended a lecture about pathways into music in higher education and employment within music. This was very informative and it was lovely to see our pupils asking well thought out questions in relation to the subject matter.
Finally, the pupils were given a tour of the entire music department. They were able to see students rehearsing in ensemble, lecture rooms, state of the art recording studios and purpose built practice rooms/halls.
Our students were a credit to the school with their exemplary behaviour and very active participation. Many thanks to Newcastle University music department for providing this opportunity for our pupils.
