Success for Frances E in the Born2Run Castlewellan 5k (Northern Ireland) on Saturday. A PB time of 19:32, finishing first woman & junior girl, 7th overall.
Frances trains with and competes for Gosforth Harriers and is a regular at the North East Harrier League cross-country events (winter) and North East Youth Development League track events (summer). She also represents Northumberland in schools' running competitions.
Her mum is from Northern Ireland so we travel back and forwards to visit family, and try to fit in different races there. Last year, Frances finished 3rd in the Castlewellan race. The race is part of a winter series by Born2Run Events, all based in forest parks around Northern Ireland.
She has also competed in the Hillsborough Running Festival 3 times - which starts and finishes in the grounds of Royal Hillsborough Castle - winning the ladies 5k race on each occasion (2019, 2022 and 2023); and in the Dambusters 5k in the very picturesque Mourne Mountains (at Silent Valley Reservoir, hence the race name!), again winning the ladies race (2022).
