Year 10 Explore Vocational Pathways at Northumberland College

July 9th, 2025

On Monday 1st July, a group of Year 10 students from Ponteland High School visited Northumberland College’s Kirkley Hall campus to take part in a carousel of hands-on taster sessions.

The visit gave students a valuable opportunity to explore a range of vocational pathways and gain insight into life at college. Activities included practical sessions in horticulture, equine studies, veterinary nursing, and animal management – all designed to reflect the real content and experience of each course.

Mr Jonny Greenshields, Deputy Headteacher, said: “It was brilliant to see our students throw themselves into every activity on offer. Whether working with animals or learning about plant care, they asked great questions and really made the most of the day. We’re hugely grateful to the staff at Northumberland College for such a well-organised and engaging visit. Experiences like this are vital in helping students feel fully informed about the options available to them, so they can make the best choice for their future.”

The visit is part of a wider programme of careers and destinations support.
